Miss. Maciel here to update you on our plans for this week and any important upcoming events.

Language Arts:

• Story of week, "Dig Dig Digging"
• Content Knowledge: People and Machines Working Together
• Phonemic Awareness: Initial /t/
• Phonics: /t/ spelled Tt
• Comprehension Skill: Classify and Categorize
• Writing: Plan a Story
• Handwriting: T and t
• THIS WEEK: UNIT 1 EXAM
• Letter recognition (A-Z)
• Sight words (I, AM, THE, Little, To, A)
• Rhyming words
• Recognizing character and setting

Math:

• Numbers 1-10
• Graphing and organizing data

Science:

• Students took the Chapter 2 test today, so far the tests are looking great!!

History:

• We begin Social Studies unit 2 tomorrow (Focus is symbols)
• We will be learning about symbols that represent the U.S and California
• If all goes well the students will take the Unit 2 exam on Friday

School events: (please see newsletter sent home last week for more information or stop by the office)

• 10/9- Coffee with Director
• 10/11- Family Friday- Lunch Tk/K 11:00 am
• 10/14 Picture day
• 10/17 Great California shakeout (10:00 am)
• 10/21-10/25 Red Ribbon week
• 1/25 Awards -Tk/K 8:00 am
• 10/28-11/4 Scholastic book fair
• 10/31- Fall carnival

P.s I would love to get some feedback with regards to the smiley faces I send home at the end of the day. Is this working better than the weekly Star report? Also, please make sure your child is not losing their smiling faces, so they may be able to go to the treasure chest for a prize. If you can or would like to donate any small items for the treasure chest please feel free to do so, maybe this will also encourage students to do even better.
