Look into our week 11/28-12/2

Good afternoon parents and guardians, 

Hope everyone is enjoying the last day of break. December will also be another month that flies by! Due to this reason, we will not be sending home a December family project. Enjoy some extra time with your family! Be sure to check our our Shutterfly page for our latest classroom pictures. If you would like access, please email me for a special invite!

That time of year is approaching. I will be using an online sign up method as I did last year. 

Please click on the link below and sign up for what would work best for you!

 Please continue to reinforce the following hand signals and rules: 
Hand Signals: (show me the number of fingers in the air)
1 finger: restroom
Encourage your child to use the restroom before school, during recess, during lunch, during PE and after school.
2 fingers:water
Children may bring their own water bottle to keep in class, please LABEL it with their name
3 fingers: pencil
Student may replace their dull or broken pencil for a new one
4 fingers: tissue
when needed, please ask student to sit back down right away
5 fingers: question
question for me to give more information on

Classroom rules:
#1: Listen while the teacher is talking
#2: Follow directions quickly
#3: Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school
#4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
#5: Keep your hands to yourself
#6: Keep your dear teacher happy

Language Arts: Unit 2-week 6: "Jack and the beanstalk"

Unit test-Friday
          -Beginning, middle and ending sounds in words
          -cvc words
          - rhyming words
          -identify words with same beginning, middle or ending sounds
          -HFW: have, is, we, my, like, he, for
          - reading comprehension

    Words to talk about: words found in the story
    Words to read: HFW/Sight words

    • Letter of the week: I
    • Weekly reading comprehension test: Every Friday (Based on the comprehension skill of the week)
    • High Frequency Words (HFW-also known as Sight words : Same set of words last for two weeks. These words are meant to be read just by seeing them.
      • This week's words: he, for
    • Sight Word Sundaes: (HFW word list): Every time your child passes a word list, they will be given the next list to practice and will be given a part of their Sundae. Please color, cut out at home and return back to me. I will be hanging these up in the classroom.

    Math: Unit 4-ordering numbers finish
    • Unit 4-ordering numbers (test-Tuesday)
      • Count to 10, even with missing numbers
      • Count items for each number up to 10
      • Minus one (one less)
    • Begin Unit 5: shapes
      • Identify similar solid shapes
      • name shapes
    Science: Gingerbread man
    • Students will be able to describe what melts in liquid
    Social Studies: Winter holidays-Hanukkah
    • Students will be able to describe facts about different winter holidays

      Reminders

      Good evening, 

      Just wanted to remind everyone about a few items as we get closer to Thanksgiving break.

      November-Disguise a Turkey project: DUE 11/21/16

      Kinder Thanksgiving feast-11/22/16
           -feast 1:45-2:45 pm (volunteers welcomed-inform teacher-no siblings allowed)
           -set up 1:00-1:45 (volunteers welcomed-inform teachers-no siblings allowed)

          -If you signed up for money donation please turn it in as soon as you can
           -all other items can be turned in the day before or day of (if hot or cold)


      PLEASE NO HOMEMADE ITEMS. ALL ITEMS MUST BE STORE BOUGHT

      What a great first trip! Our kiddos were so excited to go to UCR-they chanted all the way there. They were beyond amazed by the bell tower and how tall it was. If you were able to attend and took pictures please feel tree to upload to our Shutterfly page, or email them to me and I will upload them.

      • Our first CVC reading test was Friday, scores will go home on Monday
        • Scoring test
          • 5 points-read word without sounding it out-"Pat"
          • 4 points-sound out word and say word -"p/a/t-pat"
          • 3 points-sound out word and say incorrect word or no word at all-"p/a/t"
          • 2 points- only says two sounds in the word
          • 1 point-only says one sound in the word
