Week of 4/1-4/4

Good afternoon parents and guardians, 

I hope you are all enjoying this long weekend with your children. We are getting closer to Spring break, I know many have been asking for the dates- April 21-25.

Here is a look at our week in my class:

Language Arts:

  • Unit 5-Week 3-"Trucks Roll" 
    • Content Knowledge: Transportation That Helps Us Work
    • Phonological Awareness: Initial and Medial /u/
    • Phonics: /u/ Spelled Uu
    • Comprehension Skill: Compare and Contrast
    • Sight words: What, said, was
    • Words to talk about: trailers, cabs, haul, steering, truckers, headlights, and wheel
    • Words to read: What, said, was, yellow, blue, green, cup, mud, bug, nut, tub, cut
  • Friday exams
    • Comprehension: Compare and contrast
    • Half unit: read sight words and CVC words
Math:
  • Finish up Unit 15-Subtraction
    • subtract using pictures, whole/part, drawing items
    • TEST: Thursday, April 3
  • Begin Unit 16-Addition and Subtraction
    • Students will be able to develop addition and subtraction situations based on the same original situation.
Science:
  • Oviparous Animals
    • Animals that come from eggs
In-class announcement:
  • WE WON! We Won! The second penny wars. The kids are doing an amazing job collecting change to help those in need. The entire class will be getting No Homework passes. For the 2nd round of penny wars we collected, 3235 pennies!!! Thank you parents for all your help, and a special thank you to Mrs. Turner for collecting our coin donations every Wednesday to have it counted. 
  • Lunch 
    • orders for April-due ASAP
    • Please be sure your children are practicing their lunch numbers at home. They are required to input them at breakfast and lunch.
  • 2014-2015 Enrollment packets-Due ASAP to ensure your child's spot for next year

Week of 3/24-3/28

Good evening parents and guardians,

I hope you all had a great start to your week. We have a pretty busy week ahead of us but it is also filled with lots of fun stuff. Spring is in the air and spring break is getting closer.

A few announcements before I share our week:

  • Please remind your child to follow the rules at all times. The children have been a been chatty lately and this has caused us to stop and review the rules during lesson throughout the day.
    • 1) Listen while the teacher is speaking
    • 2) Follow directions quickly
    • 3) Respect others, respect yourself and respect your school
      • Keeping hands and feet to self
    • 4) Raise your hand to speak
      • We usually review this time 2-3 times a lesson
    • 5) Be safe, be honest
      • Hand on rail when walking up and down the stairs
      • No running up or down the stairs
      • No jumping off the stairs
      • No tipping on your chair (about 2-3 children fall off every day, luckily no more accidents have occurred)
    • 6) Keep your hands to your self
  • THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TALK WITH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT THEIR BEHAVIOR AT SCHOOL :)

  • Language Arts
    • Unit 5 Wk 2- Story "Mayday! Mayday!"
      • Content Knowledge: Emergency Transportation
      • Phonological Awareness: Final /ks/
      • Phonics: /ks/ Spelled Xx
      • Comprehension Skill: Cause and Effect
        • Exam this Friday
  • Math
    • Continue with Unit 15 (subtraction)
      • Students will be able to use a part-whole situation to model subtraction
        • Exp: 9 connecting cubes in all. 3 are red. How man will be blue?
      • Students will be able to write subtraction sentences
      • Students will be able to subtract using chance situation
        • Exp: There are 7 rabbits, 2 jump away. How many are left?
  • History
    • Students took their Unit 4-Lesson 4 Assessment
      • How can we show a neighborhood?
  • Science
    • Working on predicting and our 5 senses
    • Making Oobleck
  • Leadership
    • Cesar Chavez
  • Read Across America (Thursday 3/27)- All these activities are subject to change depending on class behavior
    • STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO WEAR PAJAMAS THIS DAY
    • Math: Graphing (One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish)
    • Language Arts/Writing: Have visiting readers
    • Language Arts Centers: Putting words in alphabetical order
    • Science: Oobleck (Bartholomew and the oobleck)
    • Craft: Cat in the hat-Hat and bow tie

Week of 3/10-3/14

Good afternoon parents and guardians,

I hope you all had a great Monday with this new time change. My kiddos had a pretty good day, despite a few of them feeling tired.
Here is  glimpse at our week.

Language Arts:

  • Unit 4-Week 6-"Abuela"
    • Content Knowledge: City Adventures
    • Phonological Awareness: Initial Sounds
    • Phonics: /e/ Spelled Ee
    • Comprehension Skill: Setting
    • THIS FRIDAY: STUDENTS WILL TAKE THEIR UNIT 4 TEST
      • Phonemic awareness: Letter sound recognition
      • Phonics-CVC and other simple words (recognize words)
      • High Frequency words
        • are, do, that, one, two, three, four, five, from, here, go
      • Comprehension
        • sequence, cause and effect, character, classify and categorize and setting
Math:

  • Continue with Unit 14
    • Adding simple numbers problems
      • determine answers by counting all, counting on and using a number line
Science:
  • Finish up chapter 5
    • Students are schedules to take their test Tomorrow
      • Day sky, Night sky, weather changes, seasons of the year
History:
  • Students will be going back to Unit 4- Where we are
    • What symbols do you know?
Classroom news:
  • Substitute THURSDAY-please remind your kiddos to be on their best behavior this day. I have been talking to them about their expected behavior since last week. I'm hoping this time around they have a better day than the first time I was out all day :)
  • THANK YOU for all the classroom supplies. Kids are happy they have new markers and glue sticks

Week of 3/3-3/7

Good evening parents and guardian, 

Happy March! This new month is here and we are getting closer to our kiddos becoming 1st graders. I'm still not ready to let them, go, I am enjoying this year with them very much. We still have time to make many more memories.

Here is a look into our week:

Language Arts:

  • Unit 4-Week 5-"If you could go to Antarctica" 
  • Content Knowledge: Antarctic Adventures
  • Phonological Awareness: Initial /e/
  • Phonics: /e/ Spelled Ee
  • Comprehension Skill: Classify and Categorize
  • Handwriting: Write E and e
  • Students this week will be tested on:
    • Comprehension: classify and categorize
    • Writing: Complete telling sentences
Math:
  • Finish up Unit 13-Number Bonds
    • Students will be tested this Wednesday
  • Begin Unit 14-Addition

Science:
  • Continue with Unit C-Chapter 5-  Earth and Sky
    • Lesson 3- How does the sun seem to move?
    • Lesson 4- What can you see in the night sky?
    • Lesson 5- What are some kinds of weather?
Class news:
  • 2 weeks away from official report cards

  • Registration packets went home today (along with uniform order forms)
