Look into our week: Unit 1 Week 1

Good afternoon parents and guardians, 

Be sure to check out our Shutterfly page for our latest classroom pictures. If you would like access, please email me for a special invite. Soon all parents/guardians will be given access to teachers grade books. I try to update my grades right away after the students take a test.

 Please help me reinforce the following hand signals and rules: 
Hand Signals: (show me the number of fingers in the air)
1 finger: restroom
Encourage your child to use the restroom before school, during recess, during lunch, during PE and after school.
2 fingers:water
Children may bring their own water bottle to keep in class, please LABEL it with their name
3 fingers: pencil
Student may replace their dull or broken pencil for a new one
4 fingers: tissue
when needed, please ask student to sit back down right away
5 fingers: question

Classroom rules:
#1: Listen while the teacher is talking
#2: Follow directions quickly
#3: Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school
#4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
#5: Keep your hands to yourself
#6: Keep your dear teacher happy

Language Arts: Unit 1-week 1
  • Theme: Farm animals
  • Story of the week: "Old MacDonald had a wood shop"
  • Poem of the week: "Who am I? (pig)"
  • Letter(s) of the week: A, B, C, D, E
    • Home activities: Look for the letter(s) Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee (in all types of fonts)
    • Say words that begin with Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee
    • Draw pictures that begin with Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee
    • Sound  out  blend CVC words (determine if real or silly)
      •  cat, bat, hat, gat, pat
  • Weekly reading comprehension test: Every Friday (Based on the comprehension skill of the week)
  • High Frequency Words (HFW-also known as Sight words : Same set of words last for two weeks. These words are meant to be read just by "seeing" them)
    • This week's words: I, am
Math: Chapter 1-Matching, sort and classify (lessons 1.1-1.4)
  • Students will be able to show same and different
    • categories: color, shape, size, pattern
    • Left and Right
    • Texture (smooth, rough, etc)
Science: Farm animals-parent and child
  • Students will be able to name and match parent and child animals on a farm
Social Studies: Then and now
  • Students will be able to describe items and tasks that used to take place then and now.
    • Exp: School then- one school for all grades/town   School now-classes for all grades
    • Exp: Land transportation then-horse and buggy    Now-cars
    Writing: The Writing house
    • Introduce writing house
      • What do the lines mean
    • Introduce tall letters, small letters and falling letters
    • Practice paper (print and use at home)
