Look into our week 2/21-2/24

Good evening parents and guardians, 

Be sure to check our our Shutterfly page for our latest classroom pictures. If you would like access, please email me for a special invite. Also, don't forget all parents/guardians were given access to teachers grade books. I try to update my grades right away after the students take a test.


With a new year upon us, some of our classroom supplies have begun to run low. Donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated!
-glue sticks
-Large writing pencils
-Disinfecting wipes
-Gently used board games or card games

 Please continue to reinforce the following hand signals and rules: 
Hand Signals: (show me the number of fingers in the air)
1 finger: restroom
Encourage your child to use the restroom before school, during recess, during lunch, during PE and after school.
2 fingers:water
Children may bring their own water bottle to keep in class, please LABEL it with their name
3 fingers: pencil
Student may replace their dull or broken pencil for a new one
4 fingers: tissue
when needed, please ask student to sit back down right away
5 fingers: question

Classroom rules:
#1: Listen while the teacher is talking
#2: Follow directions quickly
#3: Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school
#4: Raise your hand to speak or stand
#5: Keep your hands to yourself
#6: Keep your dear teacher happy

2/22: Last day of Box Top Competition
2/23: Jog-a-thon Pledge envelopes due
2/24: Awards 8 am

2/28: Black History Month Assembly
Our class will be performing a song @ 1pm

3/1 VOTING BEGINS
Voting is allowed on a daily basis

3/2: Read Across America
STUDENTS MAY WEAR PAJAMAS
In need to Volunteers to come and read to the class with a Q&A session right after
Total time should be about 20 mins per reader
Available times are:

3/7: NO SCHOOL (Pending board approval)

3/15: Wacky Wednesday
We will be making Solar ovens
Our class is in need of:

Cereal boxes
Pizza boxes
Saran wrap
Foil
Gram crackers

Songs to practice at home:


Language Arts: Unit 4-week 3: "Little Mouse"

  • CVC reading test (Friday)
    • CVC words and words with beginning blends
  • Phoneme Segmentation Fluency (PSF)
    • Say all the sounds in words

Words to talk about: words found in the story
Words to read: HFW/Sight words

  • Letter(s) of the week: Blends
    • Blends song 1
    • Blends song 2
    • Blends song 3
    • Home activities: Look for the blends (in all types of fonts)
    • Say words that begin with the Sl,Br, Sc, Sn
    • Draw pictures that begin with the blends mentioned above
    • Sound  out  blend CVC words (determine if real or silly)
      •  Slip, Slim, Brat, Brin, Scop, Scod, Snap, Snog
    • Make a list words with these endings
      • -at, -eg, -ip, -og, -up
  • Weekly reading comprehension test: Every Friday (Based on the comprehension skill of the week)
  • High Frequency Words (HFW-also known as Sight words : Same set of words last for two weeks. These words are meant to be read just by seeing them.
    • This week's words: one, two, three, four, five
Math: Unit 9-Comparing Numbers to 10
    • Begin Unit 9-Comparing numbers to 10
    Science: Chapter 6- Objects
    • Students will be able to identify and describes what they observe with the senses
    Social Studies: Black History Leaders

    Writing: The Writing house
    • Write sentences with a "WHO" and "WHAT"
    • Practice paper (print and use at home)
